Fletcher Martin was an important artist who spent time in Woodstock, NY. Born Palisade, Colorado, April 29, 1904. Learned printing trade as a boy. Joined U.S. Navy in 1922, served four years. Worked at printing trade until 1935, painting in spare time. Artist war correspondent for Life Magazine, covered African campaign, 1943; Normandie campaign, 1944. Best known for his boxing scenes, western scenes and portraits of Hollywood women.
