Description
Apollo 12 Flown Silver Robbins Medallion, Serial Number 222, with Signed LOA from Astronaut Gene Cernan. This 32mm sterling silver medal was flown aboard Apollo 12, the sixth manned mission in the Apollo program and the second to land on the Moon. The three-man crew consisted of Pete Conrad, Alan Bean, and Dick Gordon. The medallion emphasizes the crew's Navy background as it features a clipper ship arriving at the moon. The ship trails fire and flies the flag of the United States. The mission name APOLLO XII and the crew names are on a wide border. The reverse has the engraved dates of the mission along with the serial number and sterling and Robbins hallmarks. Excellent. From the collection of Dolores A. Riley, sister of Gene Cernan.
Included with this lot is a signed letter of authenticity from Gene Cernan on his personal letterhead stating, in full: "I hereby certify that Apollo XII silver Robbins Medal, serial number 222, was flown aboard the mission to the moon November 14-24, 1969. This medal was made available to me by the crew of Apollo XII as a long-standing tradition and was presented to my sister, Dolores Riley, as a personal memento."
