Description
finely lacquered and decorated with landscapes, birds and floral tracery, two upper doors opening to open compartment, two lower doors opening to compartment fitted with shelf and two small drawers, original hardware fittings, back of top with marks for Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795), one set of marks stamped into lacquer, other set etched into wood, 18th century, 49 x 28-1/2 x 15 in. Scattered wear and minor repairs to lacquer particularly at edges of doors and door surrounds, one chip at bottom edge, black background slightly hazy, other expected lacquer cracking, one hinge possibly replaced. Provenance: The Estate of the Late Chester and Claire Kellogg, Charleston, South Carolina.
