A very evident feature is the fence. It encloses the home in its private space, given greater intimacy by the trees and bushes. A number of people pose within and on the fence; a few have ventured outside. As with many daguerreotypes this has a documentary aspect (the house and its proud inhabitants) and, almost by chance, an allegorical aspect.
