The identification is provided on a modern paper that accompanies the image. This is most likely the second of the great German quartets of this name. An interesting history is given at http;//www.geocities.com/blackbeardian/Longbeards/glmuller.html. The quartet traveled widely in Europe, and probably came to the US. The identifying paper that came with this indicates "Sacramento," and the daguerreotype was found in California.
