Curtis was the editor of "Harper's Weekly." He favored emancipation and championed the rights of blacks, Indians, women. This is a CDV-size albumen print tipped onto a page. Beneath is an ink endorsement by Curtis: "Capt. Stone [?] from his lugubrious looking friend." [3]
