Byzantine Period, c.10th Century AD. A marble stele fragment depicting an angel descending while holding a ram in preparation for sacrifice. He holds the ram by the horns with his right hand and a knife with his left. An interesting piece of early Christian art. Repaired from four parts. D: 8" x 6". The first appearance of the angel was in Egypt.
