Kushite Period, Dynasty XXV, 760 - 656 BC. A lovely upper portion of a sarcophagus lid with delicate features and vivid color. The handsome face is framed by a tripartite wig decorated with pin stripes of alternating blue and white. Cosmetic details highlighted in black and white over an even skin pigmentation. Below the wig is a large broad color of various geometric and linear designs representing beads in blue, red, green and white, ending in falcon-headed terminals supporting solar discs. Below the collar is a representation of Isis, winged, wearing solar disc and holding plumes of Maat. To the left and right sides are images of Osiris, mummiform, holding a sceptre and wearing Atef crown. A most attractive piece with no restoration or over painting. H: 37 ¼", W: 20". Some age cracks and loss of pigmentation visible, as well as some abrasion to the nose. A choice example of a larger piece of ancient Egyptian funerary art.
