Italian Giltwood, Polychrome and Marble-Top Console Table, early 18th century, in the rococo taste, the shaped Sicilian marble top with a molded edge above a conforming frieze with foliate and pierced shell carving, raised on foliate C-scroll legs joined by a pierced stretcher and ending in foliate upturned toes, h. 33". Exhibits normal shrinkage, minor losses to finish and gesso, and wear consistent with age and use. The marble exhibits some repaired breaks of very good quality. The gilt and polychromed surfaces exhibit several generations of touch-up and inpainting. When affixed to the wall, the table is tight and free of wobble.
