Jean D'Ylen (1886-1938) Shell Oil and Petrol, The Quick Starting Pair, original poster printed for Shell by Etablissements Vercasson Paris 1926 - 75 x 114 cm The poster although not numbered is almost certainly cat. no. 132 in the Shell LIst published in 1974. It is also very likely to be the first time the famous slogan |The Quick-Starting Pair| was used on Shell posters. Intriguingly the printing company is confirmed as the letters |E V| are discretely shown within the Shell motif also labelled |Issued by Shell-Mex Ltd. This would confirm that this influential French poster designer was able to use his regular |in house| printers to produce the Shell posters. Grade A in general terms^ this rare poster has survived 87 years with minor issues^ the colours are bright and fresh^ it has two tears to the bottom centre and left corner. We decided not to get the poster linen backed so the buyer can decide for themselves.
