Colonial Era Hunting Sword Carried by American Militia
c. 1740-1760, European Hunting Sword, Choice Very Fine.
Originally designed for hunting, many of these swords assumed more general use by American military officers--commonly used in the Colonies during the French and Indian and American Revolutionary War. 22" straight sword with original gray and light brown patina, very smooth with some minor pitting. 5"-long horn handle with brass pommel and capstan rivet, slender knuckle bow, brass sea shell counter-guard, and lobed quillon. Horn grip is golden brown and ochre, with carved initials on top: "WI."
