Famous Signers on Colonial Currency
Rare 1773 Virginia Currency £8 Denomination Note Signed by Both Peyton Randolph & John Blair PEYTON RANDOLPH & JOHN BLAIR. Virginia, April 1, 1773, £8, James River Bank Form, Extremely Fine. This historic, early Virginia note is printed on both sides in black and completed in nice brown manuscript. There are four full large even margins, with a large Indent border at left. A classic Sailing Ship vignette is sharply printed and distinct at the upper left. This note is signed by both “Peyton Randolph” and “John Blair” in medium brown ink at the lower left and also by “Robert Carter Nicholas, Treas.” There is some minor deft repair at upper edge and sealed centerfold splits. Overall, this note looks quite exceptional with a bold, clean appearance for the grade. The well printed reverse has uniquely styled border designs and the text, “EIGHT POUNDS” - “DEATH to COUNTERFEIT” and “160 SHILLINGS” and is very clean.
