Audubon, J.W., after. POLAR BEAR - MALE. Color lithograph finished by hand and printed by J.T. Bowen, Philadelphia, 1846. Plate XCL, from The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America, N.Y., 1845-54. Wood p208. Above “Polar Bear” in lower margin: Ursus Maritimus, Linn. Attractively framed, sight size 18 3/8 x 24 inches. Spotting and light dampstaining mostly to white areas. Several tears (expertly repaired verso, 1 extending into image, the others marginal). Restoration below Bowen's imprint at lower right. Short tears to edges. Hinged with 2 adhesive bits along verso's upper edge. Image very good.
