JOHN DAVIS LONG, Massachusetts Congressman; William McKinley's Secretary of the Navy.
Photograph Signed, "John D. Long" as Secretary of the Navy, August 10, 1898, 5” x 3.25", Choice Very Fine. There are two light areas of foxing. An excellent photograph of Long boldly signed on the mount and provides for an excellent presentation worthy of display. Quite scarce.

In the latter capacity, Long oversaw the Navy during the Spanish-American War and laid the groundwork for the growth of the "New American Navy" fostered by his former assistant, Theodore Roosevelt.
