RARE NORTHWOOD ICE BLUE CARNIVAL ROSE SHOW DISH XW
Item Details
Description
We are exceptionally proud to SHOWCASE this RARE and valuable 1912, Northwood Carnival ruffled bowl in the prized Rose Show pattern, featuring the even more RARE Ice Blue Opalescent color. This pattern was only produced for a very short time, and as noted by Dave Doty and other experts, was one of the few patterns that was not marked with the classic underlined N in circle. This bowl has incredible Ice Blue highlights, a fantastic precision mold and is in Wonderful condition. This 1 in a million Carnival bowl weighs 1# 7 oz. and measures 8.75 x 8.75 x 2.75 inches high. Virtually all references list the Ice Blue bowl in the $700-$900 range, BUT the Ice Blue Opalescent in virtual MINT CONDITION,AS IS OURS, lists from ~ $1,500 to $1,800! xxxxxxxxxxxx. The following was taken directly from Dave Doty's magnificent website, http://www.ddoty.com/. Without doubt, Rose Show and the similar Poppy Show are patterns most collectors would die for. Fortunately, there are enough (almost one percent of Carnival items that sell at auction are Rose Show or Rose Show variant), that the only sacrifice may be a little cash. Although neither pattern has ever been found with a Northwood mark, the joint discovery by Karen McIntyre and Glen and Stephen Thistlewood of a Northwood ad showing these pieces has confirmed the maker. While Rose Show has not been reproduced, it is occasionally found in uniridized blue opal. xxxxxxxxxxxx. In 1908, shortly after Fenton introduced their iridescent Carnival & stretch glass lines, Northwood was fortunate to purchase the Jefferson Glass Co. molds vastly expanding Northwoods line capacity. Shortly thereafter, Northwood entered the Carnival glass market with the introduction their first Iridescent line, calling it Golden Iris. This was the soon to be prolific color we recognize as Marigold Carnival. Northwoods earliest production of Iridized glass in 1908 included their versions of Water Lily and Cattails, Cherry and Cable, and Valentine, among others. About this time they added amethyst, cobalt blue, and green. In 1912, Northwood added the colors we call pastel, ice blue, ice green, and white. But Northwood is probably best known for their aqua opalescent glass, which they added around the same time. Their best known pattern, Grape and Cable, was introduced in 1910, as were many of the Northwood classic patterns. Grape & Cable became so popular, that it was produced it in many colors and more than 60 different shapes. Much of the 1905 to 1915 glass was also responsible for identification of the best known trademark, the underlined N in a circle, which appears on much of Northwoods Carnival, but not all. Harry Northwood passed in 1918 and the factory ceased production in the mid 1920s.
