With dark chin length hair, long earrings, a necklace and two rings. Dressed in a dark dress with white collar and lace cuffs. Resolution good. Opposite side of case has inscription: "Genuine Union Case Improved. Fine Gilt and burnished Hinge. S. Peck & C., Manufacturers." Small hard black case with grapes embossed in corners, front and back. Metal hinges. 2.75" x 3" Est. $300 - $500 Ship: $15 There is a wonderful selection of Daguerreotypes, Ambrotypes, Tintypes and photos in this sale. Most of the items came to us from one consignor. The consignor had hired an expert to appraise the collection. As our specialty is really 20th c. self-taught art, and not photography, we used the descriptions determined by the consignors appraiser in our catalog. We have received numereous emails regarding our descriptions and advice about correcting original mistakes from ebay bidders which we truly appreciate. Based on this advice we have revised many of the descriptions. This particular image was originally described as a daguerreotype but appears to be an ambrotype. It is not mirrored looking as a daguerreotype , but rather reflective as glass would be. It is not attracted to a magnet.
