Wearing a dark dress and crocheted white collar held with a pin. Brown embossed velvet with center medallion. Case of hard black material with fleur de lis type embossing. Right side in lower left corner is chipped, impairing lower hinge. Most of the items came to us from one consignor. The consignor had hired an expert to appraise the collection. As our specialty is really 20th c. self-taught art, and not photography, we used the descriptions determined by the consignors appraiser in our catalog. We have received numereous emails regarding our descriptions and advice about correcting original mistakes from ebay bidders which we truly appreciate. Based on this advice we have revised many of the descriptions. This particular image was originally described as a daguerreotype but appears to be tintype. It is attracted to a magnet.
