Description
Charlie Finley Orange Baseball in Original Box The maverick owner Charlie Finley bedeviled a generation of his fellow baseball owners (and one particularly exasperated commissioner: Bowie Kuhn) with scrappy ball clubs that dominated in the giddy days before Free Agency came along. One of his coolest and most quixotic efforts involved a bright orange baseball that Uncle Charlie thought might put some pizazz into the stuffy ole national pastime. The A's owner unveiled his masterpiece in 1970, using it in spring training when Bowie balked at letting him try it in a regular-season ball game. Our specimen is regulation size and indicates right on the sweet spot that it's an Official Charles O. Finley baseball. The ball never caught on at the big league level, but here's your opportunity to own this one still in excellent condition, as it appears not to have been used. The box it comes in, however, is missing the top flap. Directly from the personal collection of Phil and Cora Rizzuto.
