Rare Twelve Piece Emile Leger Renaissance Revival Carved Mahogany Dining Room Suite, c. 1893, Paris, the monumental sideboard, accompanied by a matching banquet table on twisted columnar supports with four leaves, and a set of ten (8+2) chairs, signed "E. Leger 12 r Des Vosges" on lock, Table- H.- 33 in., Closed W.- 65 in., Open W.- 139 1/2 in., D.- 54 in., Sideboard- H.- 11 ft. 2 in., W.- 7ft 6 1/2 in., D.- 2 ft 2 1/2 in. Note: Leger was a noted French Furniture maker during the last half of the 19th c., winning silver medals at the 1878 and 1889 Expositions Universelles, Paris.

Condition consistent with age and use. The base of the sideboard upper body has a small area of minor decorative joint separation that appears at the right base of the central cupboard doors, and a burn spot to the carved edge is detected below the upper right cupboard door measuring approximately 2 inches. The sideboard top is observed with a mild stain to the left, with a slight humidity crack detected at right. The carved outer edges of the top appear with mild dents and wear. The chairs have minor losses to the small applied carved edges mainly near the crests and splats; the leather upholstery appears with mild abrasions and paint scuffs to the surface, and the bronze nail head trim is observed with a greenish patina. Minor paint spray is detected to one side chair and one armchair with loose arms. The table top appears with surface scuffs and wear to the original finish, noted particularly near the center, and the leaves are associated, but likely not original to the composition. The imperfections do not distract from the overall presentation of this historical and memorable collection; a masterpiece suite.
