Description
France, 1st model, 1814 - 1820
A two-piece, black lacquered leather bowl with silver-plated copper mountings. The screw-mounted plate shows a reverse monogram "L", for Louis XVIII, over a sunburst. The palm fronds on the side are pinned. The screw-mounted crest bears plume decoration and a black horsehair crest. The metal chinscales are on sun rosettes with replacement velvet backing and laces. The front brim has stamped decoration and a silver-plated trim. A socket on the side for the missing plume. Red leather sweatband with a few remnants of the silk lining. In the original helmet case with three iron latches and a handle.
