Antique American Sampler. 2" wide Maple frame houses sampler worked in colored silk on guaze laid on linen by "Eliza Keepos" "1826". Depicts upscale salt-box home of the day, birds, deer, trees and flowers. Reads: "Thou glorious or supremely bright just rising from the sea. To cheer all nature with thy light. What are thy beams to me. To hail thy new born day. Alas! my morning sacrifice is still to weep and pray. for what are natures charms combined to one whose wears breast can neither peace nor rest comfort find not friend wher (sic) onto. Come friendly death thy manda (sic) give and let me be at peace." Beneath reads" Eliza Keepos's work May 31, 1826". Condition: Except for light silk lettering of author displays fading, overall condition is very nice. No damp staining. Approx. size: Work area: 16" x 16".
