Edgar Degas letter- written in French, in ink, by his own hand. This is a report to his sister of the visit of Mr. Blanche who came by from time to time and asked for a referral for Eanest May (1845-1925) who was a banker and passionate collector and who was friendly with Degas and Manet. (His portrait painted by Degas ''at the Bourse'' hangs in the Louvre today. ''I had just finished this letter and had dined, Mr. Blanceh came, as he does from time to time, to ask of you. He also came to ask me for a reference for Ernest May, of the Franco-Egyptian Bank. On the grounds that Henry had wanted for so long, he built, he told me, two little houses for the people of Belleville (on the grounds near the station. He regretted not having a reply to the letter arrived there about 1 January - add this piece to bring you good memories and wishes.
