Description
Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, 300-32 BCE. Human-headed falcon wears a tri-partite wig with long lappets and the feet set apart on an integral rectangular base. 5-1/2"H. The Ba was portrayed as a human-headed bird, whose duty was to reunite the soul with the body. The Ba-bird was often shown hovering over the deceased's mummy or leaving or entering the tomb at will.
