Four Piece Victorian Rococo Revival Parlor Set by Meeks, American, mid-19th century, laminated rosewood. Lot includes 3 matching cushioned chairs with curved, padded backs having elaborate pierced carving accented with grape clusters, floral sprays and foliate elements in the "Hawkins" pattern; resting on cabriole legs fitted with wooden casters; PLUS a matching sofa of identical construction and design. All are constructed with approximately 7 layers of laminated rosewood veneer; uncarved backs are finished in rosewood veneer and retain an old, mellow finish. Reupholstered in the period style with a red velvet covering; chairs 17" seat height x 42" overall height; sofa 16" seat height x 50.5" overall height x 66" wide.
AUCTIONEER'S NOTE: Originally catalogued as attributed to J.H.Belter, further research has revealed that it is the "Hawkins" pattern by Meeks.
Minor wear and losses. Upholstery not removed.
