Bradley & Hubbard Wire Frame Hall Lamp with Cranberry Swirl Shade, ca 1875-1885, kerosene period, of solid brass, and attributed to Bradley & Hubbard. The 10" cranberry opalescent swirl domed shade is probably by Beaumont, Nickel or another Ohio Valley glass house. Openwork stamped stars on the shade ring repeat the motif seen on the sand blasted "Star in Circle" Lomax font (see Thuro, 2001: 21, 192 & 194). The weight and pulley mechanism is shown on p. 193. The font retains a No. 1 Taplin-Brown collar and filler cap, both with patent dates April 13, 1875, March 21, 1876; patent dates Aug 28, 1882, Dec 10, 1887 on the wick wheel. The period burner has a pull-up fill mechanism as seen in Thuro 1976: 43, fig. C-4. The smoke bell is present, and a period flange-type plain top chimney accompanies the lamp.
Condition reportUnmodified unrestored condition; brass has been polished; shows very light wear.
