This is a limited edition serigraph on arches paper by world famous artist Erte. The title is Avarice from the Seven Deadly Sins portfolio published by Sevenarts Limited 1983 in a limited edition of 350 this being example 248. Hand signed by Erte lower right margin and comes with a COA. The serigraph measures 18 1/2 by 13 1/4 inches and framed measures 34 1/2 by 28 1/4 inches. In Paris he began the work that would make him famous creating cover illustrations for Harpers Bizarre magazine. Erte developed his unique Art Deco style designing over 250 covers and drawings for Harpers. His flamboyant style and love of the exotic lead him to design extravagant costumes and sets for the Folies- Bergere in Paris and George Whites Scandals in New York. For 40 years he dressed such stars as Lillian Gish Josephine Baker Mata HariMary Garden and Anna Pavlova. At age 75 he began creating limited edition serigraphs and bronzes based on his designs. This brought his art to a wider audience. The demand for Ertes art lives on. He was a major influence on art and design of the 20th Century and is known as the Father of Art Deco. Ertes work is in prestigious collections worldwide including the Smithsonian the Victoria and Albert Museum London and New Yorks Metropolitan Museum and The Museum of Modern Art. His work titled La Princesse Baudour al Badour sold at Sothebys London in November 1996 for 29860 dollars. Retail Value $6500.00
