Otto Rudolf Schatz (1900-1961)
Otto Rudolf Schatz attended the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna under Oskar Strnad and Anton von Kenner. He gained recognition as a talented illustrator when still very young and was awarded the Große Staatspreis in 1925. Schatz was interned in a concentration camp during the Second World War. He returned to Vienna after the end of the war where he became an important figure in the art scene. Schatz’s woodcuts are probably best known, but his painterly oeuvre is very eclectic, encompassing a large variety of themes.
