This oil painting depicts a young woman wandering across a pasture by the river, accompanied by two cows. This rather late painting is attributed to the Munich painter Karl Stuhlmüller, whose early works still appear in the tradition of the academic Munich School of the 19th century. Stuhlmüller presented many motifs of the rural environment such as market stalls, cattle markets and harvest scenes. The subjects are often created in the region surrounding Dachau. This present work clearly shows the influence of French Impressionism and the effect it had on German painters, such as Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth, at that time, and is furthermore expressed here by the use of a loose brushwork and freer design of coloring.

This painting is relined, its edges show few minor defects due to the framing, otherwise it is overall in very good condition. The stretcher measures 49 x 65.5 cm. The framed dimensions are 66 x 81.5 cm.
