The debate among the three candidates for Vice President in 1992 was conducted in Atlanta, Georgia on October 13, 1992 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. 3 ¼†x 6 ¼†Media badge for the debate signed by Al Gore (1948- ), Dan Quayle (1947- ) and Admiral John Stockton (1923-2005) “All best wishes John Stockdale.†Stockdale, who was third-party candidate Ross Perot’s running mate, was not informed that he would be participating in the debate, until a week before the event. He had no formal preparation for the debate, unlike his opponents Gore and Quayle, and did not discuss any political issues with Perot beforehand. He notably opened the debate by saying, “Who am I? Why am I here?â€, when responding to a request for an opening statement from debate moderator.
