Robert Peary (1856-1920) Polar explorer. Peary is famous for his discovery of the North Pole; he was one of the last and greatest of the dog team-and-sledge polar explorers. 8†x 10†typed letter signed, “R. E. Peary, U. S. N., Philadelphia, October 8, 1892, to J. M. Stoddart. “…I find among my correspondence a note…in reference to an article for Lippincott’s Magazine…let me know just what you want and when you want it….†Affixed to the lower third of the letter is a 5†x 3†card signed by Richard E. Byrd and a Byrd Antarctic Expedition II commemorative stamp. The letter also shows scattered staining and some damage in the left margin.
