Philip Sidney Post (1833-1895) Union General. Post commanded a brigade during the Battle of Stones River. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at the Battle of Nashville. After the war, Post resigned from the army and returned to Illinois. He was appointed consul to Vienna in 1866. 5 ½†x 9†autograph letter signed, two pages, Vienna Austria, January 14, 1868, to General William D. Whipple. “…My heart is with your effort to form the ‘Society of the Army of the Cumberland’ but time and distance prevents my being with you…From the bloody fields of Aspern and Wagram both of which lie within cannonshot of where I write I send greetings to my comrades of the great Army who have engaged when carnage held high carnival on battlefields as important as even these over which I look….â€
