Description
Lew Wallace (1827-1905) Union General, author. Wallace led the 11th Indiana Volunteer Infantry in the battles of Romney and Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. He also commanded with distinction at Fort Donelson and Shiloh, prevented Confederate general E. Kirby Smith's raid on Cincinnati, Ohio, and delayed Confederate general Jubal Early’s advance on Washington at the Monocacy River, Maryland. In 1880, Wallace published the very successful historical novel, Ben Hur, A Tale of the Christ. 5 ¾†x 9†autograph letter signed, Massasoit House, March 23, 1887, to Roselle Sage. “…your wonderfully spirited recitation at Troy of the Chariot Race from Ben-Hur.
