Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) General, 34th President. Eisenhower was a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe; he had responsibility for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45 from the Western Front. In 1951, he became the first supreme commander of NATO. 21†x 20†framed archive containing a 6 ½†x 9 ½†D-Day Order of the Day, signed at the conclusion, a 5 ½†Parker liquid lead pen, owned by Eisenhower with “D. D. E.†engraved in silver on the barrel and several strands of Eisenhower’s hair, double matted and archivally framed with a 6†x 6 ½†color, printed, photograph. The provenance with this lot includes a statement from the son of Eisenhower’s secretary attesting that the pen was a gift from Eisenhower to his mother and documentation from the White House barber.
