Description
Basketball History: Ernest Hildner (1873-1968) Basketball pioneer. On December 21, 1891, James Naismith published rules for a new game using five base ideas and thirteen rules. That day, he asked his class to play a match in the Armory Street court at the Springfield, Massachusetts YMCA: 9 versus 9, using a soccer ball and two peach baskets. Someone proposed to call it “Naismith Gameâ€, but he suggested “We have a ball and a basket: why don’t we call it basket ballâ€? Hildner was one of the eighteen players chosen to play in the initial game. Hildner and the seventeen other “First Team†participants were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1959. First day of issue postal cover with the 1961 Naismith commemorative and cachet, signed. Encapsulated by PSA/DNA with their certification number SO1094.
