Bobby Fischer (1943-2008) Chess Champion. Fischer was an American chess grandmaster and the eleventh World Chess Champion. He is considered by many to be the greatest chess player who ever lived. In 1972, he captured the World Championship from Boris Spassky of the USSR in a match widely publicized as a Cold War confrontation. The match, held in ReykjavÃk, Iceland, attracted more worldwide interest than any chess match before or since. 6 ½†x 3 ½†air mail envelope, addressed by Fischer to “Bernard Baker†and signed together with his return address in Brooklyn. The envelope is cancelled on December 1, 1963.
