Description
A wonderful Essex Crystal cane of a Boston terrier. The silver knob handle is 2 1/4” high and 1 1/3” across the rounded top. Inlaid on the top is an Essex Crystal that features a painted Boston terrier, with upright ears and black and white markings. (Reverse painted intaglio crystals are often called Essex Crystals because some were made in that area of England. They are found today mostly in antique jewelry and in some canes. Examples of these pieces are eagerly sought after by avid collectors). The sides of the handle are elaborately decorated mostly in scrolling and there are London hallmarks at the base for 1923. The shaft is ebony that ends with a 3/4” brass ferrule. The overall length is 36 1/2” and the condition is very good. It is a great example with a very nice depiction of the terrier. Estimate: $1500-$2500
