Description
A great Japanese ivory cane of rats and grapes. The ivory handle is 3 1 1/4” high and 1 1/2” at its widest. It depicts two rats with black jet eyes, on a grapevine devouring a bunch of the fruit. It is very nicely fashioned in typical Japanese style with some of the carving through and through. There is a 1 3/8” silver collar London hallmarked for 1867. The shaft is snakewood with a 1” replaced brass ferrule. The overall length is 36 1/4” and the condition is very good. It was made in England with an imported handle and it is a super example of the kind. Estimate: $1200-$1800
