Description
A very nice wood cane made as a faux sword with bird. Made of a single piece of painted hardwood, it has a full-bodied songbird as a handle that is 6” high and 1 1/2” at its widest. The finely fashioned bird is gilded, has a painted head and breast, and is standing on a gilded and painted plinth. The black hardwood shaft has a carved and gilded “hilt” where a “sword” could have been withdrawn. It mimics the curved Japanese samurai sword sheath configuration. The overall length is 38” and the condition is excellent. It was perhaps made in England sometime in the 20th Century and it is quite an unusual and unique example. Estimate: $2000-$3000
