Description
A lovely early 18th Century French Saint-Cloud porcelain cane. The handle is 1 3/4” high and 1” in diameter. It has a round blossom on top and the sides are decorated in foliate and floral cobalt blue designs on a white background “a la Berain”, according to Catherine Dike’s descriptions on pages 234 and 235 of La Canne Objet D’Art. Additionally, there are colored pictures of similar pieces on page 238. It is mounted on a snakewood shaft with a 1 1/3” worn horn ferrule. The overall length is 32 1/4” and the general condition is very good. The handle is ca 1750, and it is a lovely example of the kind. (The Saint-Cloud Factory worked between 1677 and 1766. These pieces are very scarce and most desirable.) Estimate: $2000-$3000
