Description
A very fine ivory knob nautical cane on coconut wood. Made of a single piece of tooth, the whale ivory knob handle is 1 1/2” high and 1 1/3” across the top. It is hand-turned and there are four incised lines that encircle it. There are four thin ivory separators and two of baleen. Additionally there are two wider ones of rosewood. The shaft is coconut wood that ends with a 1” whalebone ferrule. The overall length is 36” and the condition is very good. It is probably American, ca 1860, and it is a very well crafted sailor-made example. Estimate: $1200-$1800
