Description
A great boxwood puzzle cane of two men. Fashioned from a single piece of boxwood, it has a handle that is 2 1/4” high and 2 1/3” to the side. It depicts an early man wearing a fancy hat that has a buckle and bow. When the cane is inverted, the face of a second man appears wearing a cap with a visor. They have shared their facial parts to complete the “puzzle”. The boxwood shaft terminates with a 1 1/4” worn brass and iron ferrule. (Boxwood was a material often used for carving since it has a fine grain and does not easily split as it ages.) It is English, ca 1880, and it is a fine example from the Vertical Art Collection™. Per the consignor, the proceeds are to benefit the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Estimate: $1200-$1800
