Item Details
Description
A very nice whale ivory fist nautical cane on baleen veneer. Made of a single tooth, the ivory handle is 2 1/2” high and 1 7/8” at its widest. It depicts a detailed fist holding a ball. There is a thin silver collar on a wood shaft that is covered in ringed baleen veneer for its entire length. The piece terminates with a 1” burnished brass and iron ferrule. The overall length is 35” and the condition is very good with some very small and minor rub damage to the baleen just above the ferrule. It is perhaps American, ca 1885, and it is quite an uncommon nautical example. Estimate: $1800-$2800
