Description
A very good American Centennial ivory cane. The ivory handle is 2 1/2” high and 1 1/4” in diameter. The top is relief-carved with a 2/3” stylized cross. The sides are relief-carved with an American eagle great seal in a 1 1/2” oval cartouche on one side, and a depiction of roses in a matching cartouche on the other. There is a 2/3” silver collar owner-inscribed: “Chas. T. Sanborn”, on a macassar ebony shaft that ends with an aged, 2 2/3” silvered-brass ferrule. The overall length is 36 1/4” and the condition is very good. It is American and was probably made for the 1876 Centennial. It is a very nicely fashioned example of the type. Estimate: $1000-$1500
