Item Details

Description

An outstanding ivory demon or gargoyle cane. The “L” ivory handle is 1 1/2” high and 4” to the side. It depicts in wonderful detail, the head of a demon with red faceted jewel eyes, perhaps tiny rubies or garnets. The animal is decorated with vines and grapes, and has an open mouth with a triple tongue and jagged teeth. There is a 1 2/3” chain decorated silver collar marked: “Sterling”, on a chip-carved dark, exotic wood shaft that ends with a 1” brass ferrule. The overall length is 33” and the condition is very good. It is American, ca 1890, and it comes to us from the Vertical Art Collection™. Per the consignor, the proceeds are to benefit the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Estimate: $3000-$4000
