Description
A very nice Gettysburg Battlefield relic cane of wood from Meade’s Headquarters. Made of a hickory branch, it has a natural bark handle that is 4 1/2” high and 1” at its thickest point. Below it, fashioned in poker burning or “pyrography”, is a string of Union Corps badges. On the opposite side is: “Gettysburg, July 1-2-3 1863, Wood From Meade’s Headquarters”. The pyrography continues down the shaft for its full length, done in geometric lines and dots. It finishes with a 7/8” worn bimetal ferrule. The overall length is 36 7/8” and the condition is very good. It is ca 1880, and such items were often made by battlefield guides post Civil War, to supplement their meager veteran’s pensions. (Please see Google for much information on Meade’s Headquarters along with pictures.) Estimate: $500-$700
