Item Details

Description

A great carved wood spaniel cane. The hardwood handle is 2 1/4” high and 3” to the side. It depicts a floppy-eared dog, perhaps a Welsh Spaniel, with amber glass eyes and the thick wavy fur of the breed. Traces of white-painted highlights are shown on the dog’s muzzle. There is a 7/8” silver collar with a worn shield maker’s mark, on a tan malacca shaft with a 1” horn ferrule, worn at the tip. The overall length is 33 3/4” and the general condition is very good. It is perhaps English, ca 1895, and it is a fine example of the type. Estimate: $800-$1200
