Nigeria, Yoruba. A beaded "crown" for a chief. Multi-colored beadwork covers this entire conical-shaped item, save for an inch of the very top, which is cloth-covered. It might have had a finial, but then, these do come in many styles. There is a face on each side of the piece, with typical scarification on the cheeks. Between the faces are groups of three birds. A very nice item H: 15".
