Chile, Mapuche, c. 1200 – 1500 AD. Another Rare Mapuche “Quitra” or stone pipe. This carving is delicately executed in the shape of a female with arms and legs in loop motion. A very rare example probably used by the Shaman or “Machi” in fertility rites, which in Mapuche society were normally positions held by elderly women of the tribe. It measures approximately 4” in height and is found in choice condition. Very RARE!!!
