Folio (287x195 mm), 18th century half calf, five raised bands with red label and gilt title, gilt fillets, blue edges, ff. 6, [182].
Roman type, 55 lines on two columns. First appearance of the large anchor surrounded by a border (Fletcher f1 and A3). Dedicatory letter by Aldo to Egidio Antonini from Viterbo.
Very scarce first and only edition of Origenes’ Homilies on Bible, printed by Aldus Manutius.
The edition was traslated by Rufinus from Aquileia (and not by St. Jerome as declared by Aldus). This Homilies are devoted to the Pentateuc and the Book of Judges: according to the scholars, Origines was «le plus grand genie de l’eglise chretienne de langue grecque» (Jean Daniélou) and «the founder of the moderm biblical exegesis» (Henri de Lubac) and will have a deep influence on Erasmus, especially for his position on free will.

Condition
A neat repair at the blank margin of the first leaves; a leaf with the ink faded and a small loss of some letters. Honest copy.
