engraved brass plate signed as per title, chapter ring engraved 'IV-XII-VI' and marked for latitude '48d 51m', scrolled device to base of gnomon -- 7¾in. (19.5cm.) diameter
Two Pierre Lemaire's are listed as making sundials - the elder lived from 1672-1745, and his son, 1730-1760, approximately, who trained with his uncle, Jacques Lemaire, a noted constructor of Hadley-type octants.
